Jocelyn's Design Journey

After graduating high school, Jocelyn studied art at a tertiary level, majoring in graphic design. Jocelyn then went onto to work in advertising and graphic design studios for around a decade. While taking a break from work to raise her young family, Jocelyn explored a variety of art forms and eventually fell in love with pattern design, experimenting with different arrangements of repeated shapes and colours to produce works of art.

Diving into Jocelyn's Creative Process and Inspirations

Jocelyn likes to begin her creative process by spending time in nature, "observing the beauty and wonder of the natural world". She enjoys taking photographs of birds and plants to use as a reference when drawing and often creates a mood board with colours and images to help define the direction and style of the project.

Once a theme, colour palette and style has been decided for a design collection, Jocelyn then begins to work on individual designs. "I love creating a wide range of designs that complement each other with a unified aesthetic."

Where does she get her overall artistic inspiration from? Jocelyn loves visiting art galleries, markets and design stores. She also gathers inspiration from artists such as Matisse and Picasso that work with bold colours. "I love modern Australian printmaking and have always admired the work of Margaret Preston and Margaret Olley. In terms of pattern and design, the work of the master designer William Morris is beyond compare."
